SIGNATURE PRINT ON PREMIUM FINE ART PHOTO PAPER · LIMITED EDITION OF 25

Presence

For those who see strength not just as being tough, but also as daring to show yourself as you truly are

An elephant is big, really big. When one comes walking straight toward you, that's when you realize just how imposing they are. In this close-up, you see only the right side of his face. His large, flapping ears stand out, and the black-and-white brings out the texture of his skin beautifully. You don't always need to see the whole animal to feel its presence.

Because the photo was taken from so close, the image feels personal. At the same time, there's something vulnerable in the impression such an enormous animal can leave: you suddenly feel very small. A gentle reminder that you don't always have to be strong. Not for yourself, and not for the world around you.

The black-and-white gives the image a calm, timeless quality. Thanks to the powerful close-up, it comes into its own in a spot you look at often. The living room, bedroom, or home office, for example.

Which size is right for you?

The right size depends not only on the wall space you have available, but also on the distance from which you'll view the piece.

A good rule of thumb: minimum viewing distance = image diagonal x2. The larger the piece, the more distance you need to let the image come into its own.

The story behind the photo

I'd seen elephants before, but this was the first time I truly felt how small and vulnerable you can be in nature.

This elephant approached our vehicle slowly. He was completely relaxed, and we kept a close eye on his behavior. There was no reason to panic, but the closer he got, the faster my heart raced, right down to shaking hands. It's quite something when an animal of that size stands that close to you.

Eventually, he came to a stop about four meters from our vehicle. He stood there for a while, taking in our scent, then turned and walked away.

Only then did I realize how much power an elephant truly holds. You suddenly feel so vulnerable. Not because you're afraid, but because you realise you're a guest here, in a world that isn't yours.

Behind the lens

Hi, I’m Julia Eilert, a wildlife photographer from the Netherlands with a deep love for Africa. What began as an internship in Cape Town grew into a life where I hope to spend as much time as possible in the African bush.

During every safari, I’m searching for images that reveal character and tell a story. A look, a posture, a fleeting moment that keeps pulling you in. I don’t just want you to see what I saw; I want you to feel what I felt. That’s what I try to capture during the long, quiet hours I spend in the bush.

Wildlife photography is special to me because it demands patience, presence and the ability to recognise the moment the instant it appears.

When one of my images becomes a Fine Art print on your wall, I hope it becomes more than a beautiful photograph. I hope you discover something new every time you look at it, that you feel the tension, stillness or adrenaline I experienced myself, and that it carries you straight into the African wilderness.
